Where are you based/Where do you work?

My main base is near Guildford, Surrey. This allows me to easily work in London and the surrounding areas. I can generally be in central London within 1 hour. My secondary base is in Exeter, where I frequently work throughout the South West of England (Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire). I also have a base in Cardiff which allows me to work anywhere in South Wales. I have my own car with business insurance, plus I hold a valid, in-date British Passport. I have also received both doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.

Are you qualified to fly drones commercially?

I am indeed! I hold a Civil Aviation Authority GVC licence with UK PRDA-01 operational authorization. In plain English, I am licenced to fly a drone up to 25kg in weight down to 50m separation of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. This authorization allows me to fly as close as 50m to uninvolved people, and as close as is safe to involved people. I can also overfly uninvolved people if it is safe to do so, however this should be kept to a minimum.

"An uninvolved person is a person that does not take part in the drone operation, either directly or indirectly.

Therefore a person may be considered to be ‘involved’ when they have:

• Given explicit consent to the drone operator or to the remote pilot to be part of the drone operation (even indirectly as a spectator or just accepting to be overflown by the drone); and received from the drone operator or from the remote pilot clear instructions and safety precautions to follow in case the drone exhibits any unplanned behaviour.

In principle, in order to be considered a ‘person involved’, one:

• is able to decide whether or not to participate in the UAS operation;
• broadly understands the risks involved;
• has reasonable safeguards during the drone operations, introduced by the site manager and the aircraft operator; and
• is not restricted from taking part in the event or activity if they decide not to participate in the drone operation."
